Fishing

Large mouth bass, flathead catfish, channel catfish, crappie, bluegill, red ear and green ear sunfish maintain healthy populations in this 265-acre man-made lake. Rainbow trout are stocked in the winter months only. Fishing licenses can be purchased at the concession in the park.

A valid Arizona fishing license is required for anglers fourteen and older.

Boating

2 boat ramps are available at Patagonia Lake. Your day use or camping permit will cover boat launching with no additional fees. Ramps are cement and can handle most size boats when water level is normal. The lake is divided into a no-wake half and a higher-speed half (for water skiing and the like). Note: Arizona State Parks prohibits Personal Water Craft (PWCs), jet-skis, waterbikes, above-water exhausts boats, and V-8 jet boats on this lake.

Boat-in Camping

12 boat-in campsites are available at $17.00 per night per vehicle. Sites have a picnic table, fire-ring and are accessible by boat only. Some sites have portable restrooms.

Patagonia Lake is a beautiful lake nestled in the hills near Nogales, south of Tucson and is the centerpiece of Patagonia Lake State Park. It is conveniently located near a number of top Arizona attractions, including Kartchner Caverns and Tombstone, Arizona. The lake spans over 250 acres and is 2-1/2 miles long. Patagonia Lake Campground

Patagonia Lake is popular for a variety of recreational activities, including camping, picnicking, water skiing, fishing, and hiking. Created by the damming of Sonoita Creek, the lake is habitat for bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish, and is stocked with rainbow trout during the winter. For anglers’ sake, the east half of the lake is designated a no wake area. Fishing docks for handicapped anglers is located at the Patagonia Marina and behind the Sonoita Creek visitor center. Because the lake attracts a multitude of water sports enthusiasts during summer months, water skiing and jet skiing are prohibited on weekends and holidays from May 1 through September 31st. Camping ranges from developed spots to sites with water and electric hookups. Park conveniences include picnic ramadas, a swimming beach, a store and gift shop and a marina with boat rentals. Entry to the park is allowed from 4:00am until 11:00pm and access is from State Route 82 between Patagonia and Nogales.

The Patagonia Lake campground has 72 developed, 34 hook-ups and 12 boat access sites, restrooms, showers and dump station. RV size limit is 35 feet.

Patagonia Marina and Boat Rental

The marina provides boat rentals as well as bait, fishing licenses and miscellaneous fishing and boating gear. In an attempt to reduce traffic around the marina, Arizona State Parks has asked us not to sell food items at the marina — you can obtain these just a few yards up the hill at the Lakeside Market.

Our boat rentals have been expanded. We now offer canoes, paddle boats, aluminum boats (either rowed or with a trolling motor) and pontoon boats.

Day Use & Picnicking

The park overlooks a 265-acre man-made lake where anglers catch crappie, bass, bluegill, and catfish. Trout is stocked every three weeks from October through March. Hikers can stroll along the beautiful creek trail and see a variety of birds such as the canyon towhee, Inca dove, vermilion flycatcher, black vulture, and several species of hummingbirds.

The park offers a beach, picnic area with ramadas, tables & grills, a creek trail, boat ramps, a marina, and the Lakeside Market.

Visitors then pay a charge of $10.00 per vehicle up to 4 adults. A group day use area capable of seating 60 people under a ramada is available with a$5.00 non-refundable fee plus a $25 facility use fee.

Patagonia Lake offers a .5-mile hiking trail that leads to Sonoita Creek and is a very popular birding area. Additional trails (including equestrian trails) can be accessed through Sonoita Creek State Natural Area.

Lakeside Market and Gift Shop

The new and improved “Lakeside Market” is located right in the park. The store carries food and snack items, beverages, beer and wine, souvenirs, clothing, and camping gear. The store also carries a variety of ready to eat foods, including fresh-brewed coffee, fountain drinks, deli items, and hot dogs.
